Lee Kyung-Hee

Youn Ga-Hyun
Abstract
This study with phenomenological approach focused mainly on exploring sexuality for the elderly women who have been living single, especially exploring if their concepts or understandings on sexuality have been changed or not through the vicissitudes of life. The selected single elderly women were bereaved or divorced, cognitively intact, over 65 years old, and community-dwellers in Gwangju metropolitan area in Korea. Fifteen interviewees were selected by the convenience sampling principle, but data were analyzed from the interview documents of the five single elderly women. Five domains and 26 sub-constituents were extracted from the data analysis based on 4 concrete stages presented by Giorgi(1985). The domains were ¨ç aspects and/or changes in sexual patterns by aging, ¨è self-awareness as sexual being, ¨é types of expressing sexual desire, ¨ê acceptance of social-cultural expectations, and ¨ë changes of sexual concepts.
